GARP refreshes FRM curriculum annually to reflect changes in regulation, markets, and risk methodology. Here is what's changed this cycle.

New reading under Foundations of Risk Management. Covers physical risk (extreme weather, sea-level rise), transition risk (policy, technology, stranded assets), and TCFD disclosure framework as applied to financial institutions.
Revised
Quantitative Analysis — Machine Learning for Risk
New readings on supervised learning (regression trees, random forests) and unsupervised learning (clustering) for credit scoring and anomaly detection. Replaces older sections on linear regression extensions.
Revised
Financial Markets & Products — Digital Assets
New section on cryptocurrency markets, stablecoins, and DeFi protocols as financial products. LIBOR-based derivative pricing replaced with SOFR and OIS discounting throughout all numerical examples.
Revised
Valuation & Risk Models — Basel IV Alignment
VaR methodologies updated; Expected Shortfall (ES) calculations now primary measure in line with Basel IV IMA requirements. New LOS on backtesting and model validation procedures under the revised framework.
Weight Change
Foundations of Risk Management weight increased
Reflects expanded scope including corporate governance of risk, risk culture, and the newly added climate risk reading. Candidates should allocate proportionally more preparation time to this book.

Global Risk Leadership

In a volatile global economy, the ability to measure and manage risk is the most sought-after skill in banking and finance. The FRM designation opens doors to risk management roles in the world's leading financial institutions.

The FRM Strategy

"FRM is not just math. It's about understanding how the plumbing of the financial world can fail — and how to prevent it."
